BEST AND BRIGHTEST HOLIDAY CLEANING
You mop and vacuum the floor. You dust the surfaces. But what about household fabrics, like drapes, linens and pillows? Glad you asked. Drapes and bedding can get droopy and dingy if you don’t give them the regular care they need. And you may not notice the dust or grime until it’s too late. Some simple ways to keep them fresh:
1. Bust that dust. Vacuum your drapes regularly with the brush attachment, sweeping up and down. Check for moisture on windows while you’re at it and wipe it away. Moisture leads to mildew.
2. Required reading: labels. If the label says “machine washable,” go ahead and load your drapes in the washer. Never stuff the washer tub. If your drapes don’t fit, keep reading (below).
3. Offload your drapes. Best cleans drapes with GreenEarth®, which brightens up colors and leaves fabrics smooth and crisp.
4. Put linen-cleaning to bed. A comforter, pillow or quilt is a big mouthful for most washers. And many luxury materials are delicate or ‘allergic’ to laundry soap. What to do? You can “vacuum” your bedding by holding the nozzle attachment ¼ inch away from the surface to prevent dust from becoming dirt. If you wash your comforters at home, never stuff them in the dryer, which can cause clumps. Line-dry them instead for plump, fluffy results. How a quilt or comforter should be washed depends on its stuffing. So read the label and follow the rules!
