Formal Fridays? Yup, Suit up!
The age of new technology brought with it a group of talented young men and women out to change the world, and break the rules of Corporate America. They play fuse-ball in the office, wear hoodies to work, and take casual Friday to a whole new level. Now many of these casual companies are changing the rules once again, breaking free from their hoodies and suiting up.
“Formal Fridays”, as they’re becoming known as, break the monotony of casual dressing. By simply putting on a suit or dress, many employees are surprised that it makes them feel more powerful and productive. Skip Bronkie, a member of Facebook’s design team has been part of “Corporate Fridays” since their group started the tradition in 2005. “Sometimes you just want to bring the heat for no particular reason and suit up,” he said. Another CEO of a start-up company said, “I feel like a banker and I want to produce.”
Though it’s not likely Silicon Valley will be looking like Wall Street any time soon, the old saying “look good, feel good” may have more significance than they thought.
